New life for village pond in Gurdaspur, Punjab

Around Rs.14.48 lakh was spent to renovate a mucky pond in Kotli Bhitewad village, situated in Dera Baba Nanak Block of Gurdaspur District in Punjab. Free of garbage and water hyacinth, the pond has now been transformed into a beautiful lake that attracts tourists.
Both men and women Sarpanchs shared their experiences in managing solid and liquid waste as a part of Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen (SBM-G) Phase II, towards making their villages ODF Plus, during a Sarpanch Samvad held virtually on February 26, 2021.

Bansgodapurbi Gram Panchayat in Bokaro District of Jharkhand is a deserving example of how a visionary leader together with people participation can use good governance to manage waste. The initiatives carried out over the past 3 to 4 years have led to behaviour change regarding sanitation and have transformed the future of its people through livelihood opportunities and empowerment.
